Funeral services for Mr. Walter Mayes will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 12 noon at Zion Hope Baptist Church. Pastor Lenard Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Little Sandy Cemetery. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to service time at the church. Wills’ Funeral Service of Northport is in charge of all arrangements.
Public viewing: Friday, 12 noon–5 pm
Flower times: Friday, 9 am–5 pm and Saturday, 9 am–10 am

Walter, late husband to my oldest sister, the late Yvonne Mayes, will be missed. He’s been in my life for most of my life. I never forget as a child he would pull my sisters and I, along with his children by my sister, down the stairs on a sheet till we knocked over a can of white paint at the bottom of the stairs!!! Omg!!! Yvonne was mad when she got home but not more mad at us than she was with Walter!!! If we can turn back the hands of time!!!
