Elyis — you truly were a good young man. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing you for all 20 years you were here, and one thing I’ll always remember is your smile and your spirit. Every time I came home to Tuscaloosa, you were always one of the first people to greet me with a smile and say, “What up Shun,” before catching me up on life. That’s something I’ll never forget.
This is such a hard pill to swallow because your presence meant something to so many people. The pain of losing you has left a void that words really can’t explain. Your energy, your kindness, and the way you made people feel seen and welcomed will forever stay with all of us. Even though your time here was far too short, the impact you made in those 20 years will live on through the people who loved you.
My heart truly goes out to your mother KK, your sister Katriana, your brother Jacori, and the entire family. I can only imagine the hurt y’all are carrying right now. KK, I’m praying God gives you strength and comfort during a pain no mother should ever have to endure. Katriana and Jacori, I pray y’all continue to lean on each other and hold onto the love and memories Elyis gave all of you.
Please know y’all are not alone in this. So many people loved Elyis, and so many people are grieving alongside our family. Rest easy, Elyis. You will truly be missed and never forgotten.
