My heart is truly heavy today. It’s been that way ever since I received word early this morning of the passing of a longtime, dear, sweet friend —
Mrs. Martha Lee White Henderson Thomas.

Martha was a one of a kind. When God made her He broke the mold. There is so much good I could say about her. But time nor space will allow me. While she wasn’t perfect by any means. Neither is either of us. But she was a God-
fearing, Christian woman, who loved God and let her light shine before men that they might see her good works and glorify her Father in Heaven. But suffer me to express my thoughts in tribute of this special woman. She was the most unpretentious, down to earth woman you’d ever meet. I loved her immensely, I would only hope she truly knew how much we loved and appreciated her. She was the most generous and giving person. She gave from the heart not expecting anything in return. That was just her way. She took such joy in giving to and helping others. If she saw someone in need, she never waited to be asked. She was right there with whatever was needed. I’m not talking about something I’ve heard. But many were the times I have been on the receiving end of her giving and kindness. This close knit family has suffered several losses recently this year — two sisters back to back, leaving now her daughter, Cookie, grandson, Justin, her brother and one remaining sister. My sincerest condolences and heartfelt sympathies are extended to each of them, as well as all of us her church family and friends, who have suffered this seemingly irreparable loss. But we don’t mourn as those with no hope. As Christians we know that absence from the body means present with the Lord. We are rejoicing in the belief we will see her again in the resurrection. We will miss Martha, but we can take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering. She is at rest with Jesus. She is done with the troubles of this world. She doesn’t have to worry with weeping and wailing. She’s gone home to live with the Lord. Rest well my sister. Life’s race well run. Life’s work well done, Life’s victory won, Now cometh rest. See you in the morning dear friend.

On behalf of the White Family(Beatrice, Veronica, Levone, and Jeff Jr), we were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Martha Lee. Although it’s been a long time since I saw her, I was always updated regarding her illness. Praying for strength and comfort for the rest of the family today and the days ahead.
